He was a shit PM but at least BoJo had a personality. Where is Truss hiding?
The pound wasn't plummeting, and Britons weren't facing a disastrous life threatening winter
Now I’m just a Canadian moggy weighing in on something that shouldn’t matter one iota to me. But, as we all know, cats are curious by nature and notorious busy bodies. So here goes. Some thoughts...
Liz Truss is as unlikeable as she appears. Devoid of any personality, charisma or any semblance of a sense of humour.
As much as you may have hated ‘Party Boy BoJo’, at least he had a personality and was worth watching as he offered up a good laugh and we shook our heads and chuckled at his antics as he led British Tories.
Granted, most of the time the Johnson parliament was not unlike a good Monty Python sketch - leaving us laughing and wondering what the hell we had just witnessed.
But we were engaged and enjoyed laughing at the serious business of governing the seat of the British Empire.
And who can forget Boris’s pick for Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council, Jacob Rees-Mogg when, in the middle of the Brexit debate, he decided to have a little lie down as debate raged.
And Nick loves regaling anyone who will listen the tale of Johnson’s zip-line stunt when, as Mayor of London, he got stuck high above the city streets. Nick will be telling that story on his deathbed, I’m sure.
Tories were not popular then, but Boris was loved.
Personality plus.
Liz Truss - not so much. I get the feeling she’s just a placeholder until the next election.
Nick figures the Tories needed someone to hang out to dry until the next general election and compares her to Kim Campbell, a tragic character in Canadian political history.
When Canadian PM Brian Mulroney resigned after nine years, and Tories could read the writing on the wall, they made Kim the first woman PM in Canadian history. Rumour had it that the Tories needed someone to scapegoat when it was apparent that a major defeat was imminent. Come the election Tories were all but obliterated and Kim lost her Vancouver seat. She lasted about five months as PM.
Nick, a devout Liberal and Tory hater, says that he has always felt sorry for Kim.
I’m just a feline but I get the feeling that fate has something similar awaiting Liz.
