Chief Twit, Musk switches numbering system on the Bird - going hexadecimal on Twitter
Following and follower counts to be shown in hexadecimal - "It's time these idiots learn, this is the future " - E. Musk
Head Twit, Elon Musk today announced that Twitter is switching from a decimal numbering system to hexadecimal on the rapidly sinking online platform.
Decimal uses a base 10 - what the majority of the world is accustomed to. Hexadecimal - or hex - uses a base 16 (0 thru 10 and A,B,C,D,E,F. - used by the IT world. A minority of earthlings, Musk admitted.
“We’re going forward - it’s the 15th century after all. (Note - decimal value 21 is equivalent to 15 in hexadecimal)
“My kids, e=mc2 and pi, have been working in hex since kindergarten, it hasn’t done them much harm. Although it has caused a few issues when they are shopping or banking.
“And the new numbering system has been identified as the culprit in the Tesla auto drive accidents, traffic jams and general chaos. But we working on getting all the engineers to work with the same number system - that should clear up most of the chaos and the blood that is being shed.
“It should also bring down the insurance rates for self-drive Teslas. Fingers crossed.
“What this means for Twitter remains to be seen, as we don’t test any of our changes - many people, and some government agencies, have questioned this practice.”
I shudder to think what this change might mean for “Space-X”.
God help us all.
