"Do you know what my cat did today?"
A sure-fire reason why your circle of friends is diminishing
“Do you know what my cat did today?”
Truthfully, nobody cares. Never use this sentence as a way to start a conversation.
A question that loaded will just set off a plethora of “my cat” tails (pun intended).
Nobody cares. Seriously.
And a dear friend of Nick’s is terrified of cats. When she visits she curls up under a comforter on the corner of the sofa eyes peering out from under the comforter.
And let’s face it - stories of your cat’s antics will either bore the hell out of your soon to be ex-acqaintances, or horrify them such that they will have nightmares for weeks.
Nick found this out the hard way.
At a political meeting of like-minded liberal colleagues, Nick asked that very question during the pre-meeting chit-chat, and then proceeded to tell a tale or two of my ‘kill or be killed’ nature.
One such story involved a baby chick, the other involved a snake. I will not go into details but I’m sure you can guess where this goes.
The first order of new business at that particular meeting was the suspension of Nick’s tenure as President of the local Liberal Association followed by a majority of members demanding his surrender of his Canadian Liberal Association membership.
Once the word got out, he did receive many offers of membership to various terrifying and sundry right wing organizations. Some of them quite scary - Nazis, KKK and groups of that nature.
After surrendering his Liberal membership, he was blacklisted from a number of organizations. It was then he volunteered to work with the ASPCA and a whole spectrum of animal shelters.
Two years later he was invited back to the Liberals and the New Democrats wooed him. He joined a provincial campaign to elect New Democrat Rachel Notley to the Premiership of Alberta. She won. No mean feat. Side note - Rachel asked Nick to run as a candidate in the upcoming provincial election.
It was then he was invited back into the Liberal Party of Canada and has worked tirelessly for them.
He never mentions his love for cats, nor does he tell any cat ‘tails’.
