I could really use a happy news day
No news feed for this Pissed Cat today - just bright cheery nature news
Arghhhh!
I so need a break from all the freaking hard news today.
News from North America, South America, UK, India, China, SE Asia and Oz - not mention the Russian invasion of Ukraine. All disturbing and driving me to drink. And I’m a recovering alcoholic/addict so that won’t be happening. I haven’t even had a few flakes of catnip in quite a while now. I got my five year chip last month.
I used to focus on the news coming out of Australia when I felt like this.
But there is only so much watching drunk Aussies beating up on each other and their wives that one feline can handle. And it being news from Australia - the majority of the news is sports coverage.
So I took a Xanax and went looking for nature stuff with which to fill my little kitty brain.
If you see your cat looking depressed, stressed, too fucked up to even scatter and track kitty litter all over the place - you know something is wrong, and you should switch to the Nature channel and plop your feline in front of the screen. They won’t have the energy to do it on their own.
Solution for feline ennui - cats love nature TV and their human-servants love watching the cat’s reactions to all the action on the screen. When I was just a kitten and not particularly familiar with TVs or streaming, I would often run behind the screen or monitor to see where all the animals and birds went when they exited the screen.
Nick loved it when I did that. But I’m older and wiser now - not to mention a lot lazier, if that is even possible.
So first up I viewed an interesting piece on a pack of hyenas taking down a gazelle. A distraction for sure, but a little too grizzly for my taste. Moved me go out and take down a mouse. I felt guilty.
Then I came across an article on how a gibbon got herself pregnant. At first I thought it was a Mary and Jesus kind of birth. Miraculous. Just what this world needs - another deity for the MAGA crowd to worship. Turns out a male gibbon had figured out how to use a smallish hole in the fencing that separates the male and female as a sort of ‘glory hole’ and copulate.
Anyway - she got pregnant and the zookeepers were kind enough to move the male in with his ‘wife’ and newborn. I cried. Not a pretty sight to see a cat moved to tears.
But the real kicker today was reading about a group of fussy eaters - penguins. Who’d have thought that they would have a preference in fish? Apparently an aquarium in Japan, facing tough times, switched the breed of fish they were feeding the penguins under their care to something cheaper. Some penguins are real picky it seems, the keepers were moved to change the feed back to what they preferred - for those fussy upper class penguins. Those damn tuxedos have sure given them an attitude.
And finally some good news about the Monarch Butterfly - boosted Nick’s spirits today like nothing else in the last little while. As you probably know - as my readers are the most attuned people in the world - the Monarch population has been decimated in the past few years. Nick is delirious after a full morning of watching shit news on MSNBC and CNN. Even Anderson and Alex Wagner didn’t lift his spirits as usual.
Hope I brightened someone else’s day - especially my feline brethren who may be feeling a bit of the winter blues.
We’re in India so weather doesn’t really affect our mood but the shit world news sure does.
