Kami-Kwasi Kwarteng rushes home from annual IMF meeting after Liz attempts to do her own thinking
Riding the Truss rollercoaster - “Can’t leave her alone for a fecking minute."
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng cut short his stay in Washington DC, where he was attending the annual IMF meeting and rushed back to London Friday after news that PM Liz Truss had gone rogue and had started thinking.
We caught up with the visibly angry Chancellor, “Can’t leave her alone for a fecking minute. I told her not to do anything while I was gone. Not a single thing. The minute my back is turned she’s running around doing things. And worse - she was telling the press.”
“We told her in no uncertain terms when we gave her this job that she was not to try to do anything.”
“She tells me that Maggie Thatcher came to her in a dream and told her to go ahead and think for herself. And now look where that’s gotten us. We look even more incompetent than when Boris was here. I told the party we should have gone with Sunak, but they felt it was the ladies turn at the helm with the strict proviso that she not attempt to do anything.”
We tried to reach PM Truss for a comment, but were told that when she heard that Kwarteng had cut short his trip to Washington and was returning, she locked herself in the ladies WC at Westminster and was refusing to come out. The uncontrollable sobbing was clearly audible throughout the building.
Kwarteng wondered aloud as we left him, “Now what the feck is this going to do to my mini-budget spending cuts?”
On the lighter side, Larry the No 10 Cat, a front-runner in the yet to be called federal election, chased a fox away from No 10.
A much more productive day than the Tories have had for many a year.
