A strange thing has been happening every morning at our place.
Each day we are discovering dead rodents and birds at our door step.
It started with one dead mouse on a Monday morning. I thought little of it as I munched down. Perhaps Nick had caught it and left it as a snack for me. He loves to surprise me.
The next morning we discovered one dead mouse and one dead rat.
Was someone leaving us a message? Or did someone have a crush on me? I am incredibly handsome and well-read.
I should mention at this point that we had noticed a couple of feral cats hanging around a lovely park at the end of our street. Nick and I would spend an hour or so in the park every morning, watching the sun rise.
As the weeks went by the number of feral cats in the park grew. And evidently they did not appreciate us stopping there every morning.
Instead of being greeted by a colorful sunrise each morning we were instead greeted with hissing, growling, spitting and the occasional swipe at Nick’s proffered pat on the head of a feral feline. It got worse - resulting in a few stitches and increased caution when approaching a strange cat.
The number of dead creatures at our door increased. We stopped going to the park and avoided walking anywhere near it.
A few questions popped into our minds. Mostly mine. Cats see conspiracy theories everywhere - much like a Republican.
Was someone sending us a warning message?
Was I the recipient of kitty gifts?
Were they attempting a coup - taking over the entire neighborhood?
Were we the only recipients of this brutality? A quick survey of our neighbors revealed that they had ceased taking their toddlers to the park because of the cats. Several of them had children who were bearing stitches.
I don’t think we’ll ever know - I mean who knows what goes on in the mind of felines who might think that their territory was being threatened?
The dead creatures at our doorstep each morning continues.
Myself - as delusional as it may seem - I prefer to think that I have a secret female feline admirer.
Sadly, Nick had me fixed a long time ago and I can only dream of a feline romance.

“Cats see conspiracy theories everywhere-much like a republican”. 😹😹😹
Tom, I’m hoping you can have a chat with a nice lady in Iowa. On our recent road trip, we stopped for breakfast at a local restaurant. We started talking about our kids - hers are almost school-age. She mentioned that she doesn’t want to send them to school because the “Furries” have litter boxes in the classrooms.
Cats really ARE taking over the world, aren’t they?!
